The Beginning
On the 1st of October 1893, Nicholas Du Blois Beck and Edward Corrigan Emery entered into a partnership agreement for the practice of law under the firm name of Beck & Emery . This partnership has lasted over 100 years.
During that time the firm has undergone numerous name changes, new partnerships developed as the firm has grown, but the firm has never lost the old-fashioned values that Nicholas Beck and Edward Emery first established. In 1949 John Jamieson joined the firm, and the firm became Emery Jamieson LLP.
Throughout the years, Emery Jamieson LLP has grown and has occupied several local landmarks. During the years 1893-1910 the firm occupied the Canada Permanent Mortgage Building and then from 1910-1954 moved to the Canada Permanent Building and spent 43 years there. On November 23, 1979 the firm moved to its current location, the Oxford Tower where it occupies the 17th and 18th floors.
Over the last century members of the firm have been appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench, appointed as a Member of Parliament, and Premier of Saskatchewan.
John Jamieson defined the firm one day prior to his retirement:
“I guess we’re an old fashioned firm. It’s our style. It’s the manner in which we deal with our clients, with other members of the profession and each other. Outsiders notice our ability to get along among ourselves. It’s an older style. That doesn’t mean we don’t move with the times and try to be just a step ahead. As you know, looking ahead was an old-fashioned virtue.”
