Biography
Claire has practiced predominantly in the area of family law for over ten years. She provides assistance to married people in the resolution of divorce issues including custody and access matters and issues relating to child and spousal support, and division of property. As the same issues may arise between unmarried people who separate after cohabitation, the provision of legal advice and the resolution of legal issues between cohabiting partners is also a large part of her practice. Individuals who wish prenuptial agreements or cohabitation agreements also require the services of a family lawyer. Emerging issues arising in family law such as grandparents' rights and the legal rights and obligations in same-sex relationships are additional issues that Claire has resolved for her clients.
As a result of her background as a clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada and her appearances on behalf of interveners at the Supreme Court on issues arising under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, she also has significant experience in constitutional litigation.
Claire regularly volunteers her services and provides information to local organizations including educational and social service institutions and other local organizations that provide services to the community.
Claire belongs to the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Edmonton Bar Association and the Legal Education and Action Fund.
