Biography
Jan's practice is focused in civil litigation with an emphasis on employment and insurance related work. She provides advice and opinions on policy interpretation, subrogation and bad faith issues and handles defence work on bodily injury and property loss claims as well as on disability insurance claims. Representing both businesses and individuals, Jan's expertise includes all aspects of the employment relationship including drafting employment contracts and policy & procedure manuals; conducting workplace investigations regarding harassment and other complaints; evaluations and terminations. She has represented clients in the courts, in mediations, at the Human Rights Commission, at the Employment Standards Branch and other administrative tribunals.
Jan has written articles, newsletters and presented numerous in-house training seminars to clients across the country on a number of insurance, human rights and employment matters. In recognition of the effectiveness of alternate dispute resolution strategies, Jan has completed a certification in Arbitration through the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society, and is currently completing her Mediation certification.
Jan is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), the Edmonton Bar Association and the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society. Jan is also a member of the Edmonton Labour and Employment Section of the CBA.
